What is a Brazilian Hair Weave?

These are weaves that come straight from Brazil. There is a lot of controversy surrounding these types of weaves that we will cover later. But for now, understand that unless you are getting 100% non processed virgin Brazilian hair you are not getting what you are paying for. Read on to learn more about a few precautions we suggest you take before you get started on your new hair journey!

Who Are They For?

Anyone can wear these weaves. They look good on the regular woman, to the superstar artist, all the way to the fashionista walking a show in Paris. Don’t think that you cannot have the best of what life has to offer, certainly not when it comes to weaves. We have been blessed with talented stylists and companies that provide top notch weaves. If you have a desire to change your look or simply improve on your current look, then why not just do it? You only live once!

The current texture or natural texture of your hair may be an issue when getting your new hair sewn in. This is something you have to go over with your stylist. If you do not have a regular stylist the best advice we can give you is to drive by a few different salons and ask the stylists on call if you can chat with them for a few minutes.

Tell them you are going to have a brand new human hair weave put in and ask them for advice on what you should do. Ask them if they have any suggestions on how you should prepare your hair before you have anything done to it. Whoever answers your questions the best; make that person your new stylist! Of course ask to see examples of past weaves they have done. Most stylists carry a portfolio of them with photos of their best work.

Where Can You Get Them?

Isn’t that a good question! This grade of hair is extremely rare for some odd reason. It is the highest quality, the “Rolls Royce” of weaves if you will. Virgin Brazilian hair is some of the best quality hair you can get and because of that the cost can get extremely high. Only special places typically carry a lot of it. Why? For one, it is extremely hard to find. The difference between this and the Indian hair weaves is that it is a culture in Indian life for women to sacrifice their hair and shave it all off at a certain point in their lives. That culture does not exist in Brazil.

Due to the fact that this weave is so high quality and hard to find, it is usually snapped up by big money studios that provide to A-list stylists. The type of stylists that work on Hollywood sets or on music videos. A lot of the time, the hair extensions you see on your favorite celebrities is indeed from Brazil! Who would have thought?

A big problem now is Brazilian companies misrepresenting what they are selling. They will market a product as “Brazilian Weave” when in fact the hair is imported from an Indian or Asian country then processed with chemicals in Brazil to look more wavy and slick. That is very unethical but it does exist. The best thing we can tell you is to do your due diligence on these companies before you order. Make sure you Google them, call them if a number exists, and cross reference exactly where they are getting the hair from. If you have any suspicion that it is imported, then simply do not buy from there. There are companies out there that are honest, we are not trying to scare you off or make you extra paranoid. You just have to protect yourself, that is all.

The funny thing is—Virgin Brazilian Hair Weave is hard to find even in Brazil! Most of the hair comes from the rural villages and country areas where people have lower incomes than those who live in a city such as Rio or Sao Palo. Therefore it has to be imported into the city where it is sold to the local women. All of the demand from the city, plus international demand from Europe and America makes this a hot commodity and extremely hard to find.

What Makes Brazilian Weaves Better?

The best thing about these weaves is the quality. Simply put, it is some of the best money can buy. The hair is long, black, wavy, and has that bounce you expect natural hair to have. There just are not many alternatives on the market that look as good as Brazilian weaves do, certainly not synthetic hair. The hair you get from Brazil is 100% real human hair and has to be sewn in carefully by a stylist.
Brazilian women are known for having some of the best looking natural hair textures in the world. We don’t anticipate the hunt for great Brazilian hair extensions to ever end. As long as women want to look good and impress others, there demand will never end.

Until then, we hope you take this information and continue your hair journey. The most important thing is to find the best look for you. Just because someone says something is good or looks good, doesn’t mean it is right for you. You have to be comfortable. You have to feel good. You have to feel like you look good. Make the best decisions for you and you only, and you are more than prepared to have beautiful hair and look beautiful as well!

Looking for that updated look?  Then you are probably one of the many ladies out there that will look to grab a brazilian weave in the near future.  While weaves are awesome if done correctly, there are also some pitfalls you must avoid.  We are going to talk about the five things you should know.

#1- All Weave is Not Created Equal

You can get two weaves from the same source and get completely different quality.  The reason being is that… the hair is real! Duh! No two women have the exact same grade of hair.

#2- Some Weaves Are Dyed

Sometimes the suppliers will dye the hair before you get it.  This is done to create fantasy colors but also sometimes to make the hair darker.  Brazilian women naturally have dark brown hair, not the jet black hair that is more typical of indian women.

#3- Some of these “Brazil weaves” are not from Brazil

I hate to break it to you but some suppliers simply are not giving you the real deal.  Some times they are importing Indian hair, treating it in a plant in the country Brazil then calling it Brazilian weave.  Of course there is no way to prove it but that is something that people do whisper about.

#4- You have to wash your hair

Even that this is not really “your hair” it really is.  You can add any products, coloring, etc. that you can your own natural hair that grows from your scalp. Because of this you need to make sure to keep this hair clean just like you would your real hair.

#5- This hair can last a long time

If cared for correctly there is no excuse for your weave not to last you a couple months.  Some women wear the same weaves for years, they are just really good at taking care of them!

There are so many options out there for women looking to get a weave or extensions these days.  You have Indian Remy, Yaki, Brazilian, Virgin hair, and a host of others all to choose from.  How do you know which one is right for you?  Which type is simply going to be the best?

Here is one thing you can do. You can determine what type of weave to get from your own hair texture. If your hair is straight consider a straighter weave.  If your hair is thicker and curlier consider the Brazilian look.  That typically works out well.

But what if you want to change your look completely?  What do you do?

You can simply use the highest quality grade of hair and customize it to your needs.  In this case, of course, we are talking about getting a virgin Brazilian weave.  There are many reasons why.

First is if you want to color your hair, it’s simply going to look better with virgin (non processed) hair because it is human hair.  You can take your hair packs to a regular stylist to have it colored to whatever the heart desires and it is going to look great.  Not only will it look good it is real hair so its going to feel so soft and give you that healthy natural shine.  Many Hollywood celebrities are rocking Brazilian weaves and you probably wouldn’t know unless they told you!

Virgin hair lasts a long time.   You can wear one weave for over three months if you wash it and take care of it carefully. It’s real hair and has to be maintained as such.

You shouldn’t run into any shedding problems because it is real as well.  You can comb it, color it, style it, wash it in any way you see fit.  If you have not at least tried going with a virgin weave you are really doing yourself a disservice!

So you got that new weave, sewn it in and now its time to take care of it. Many women surprisingly don’t really know the correct way to take care of their new hair. Whether it is Indian remy, or virgin Brazilian weave, you have to have a process to maintain and upkeep your brand new hair. Here are some tips on how to go about it.

Note that these tips are for regular weaves/extensions. Not the gigantic “Hollywood” types.

Simple Ways to Wash and Take Care of Your Weave

  1. Wash your hair once every other week. Too long and your scalp will dry out, or you will have too much buildup in your hair.
  2. Deep wash and condition. Do this as normal.
  3. Put some extra water in all products to minimize any effects the chemicals have have on the processing of the hair.
  4. Rinse your hair very well. Make sure you get everything out.
  5. Dry your hair. Do this as normal.
  6. Moisturize your scalp. Find the best product for your scalp type, apply this product to your scalp.

That is about it. Using these simple tips you should have your weaves last much longer, and your hair will be much healthier for you doing so. It is amazing how many people do not have a schedule for this. Stay on schedule! Every two weeks is a good schedule. Just don’t miss doing what you have to do because it will cost you in the end. Even though that the weave is not your hair, it is still real hair (if it is a legitimate Brazilian weave or a Indian Remy) and has to be take care of as such!

So let’s sum everything up:

  1. Wash and condition hair (add water to products)
  2. Rinse and dry
  3. Add moisturizer to scalp

That is pretty much it! Follow those steps and your weaves should last for a good amount of time!

This article is to tell you a little more facts on brazilian hair. You can order wavy, curly, virgin brazilian weave either online or buy it from a beauty supply shop.

On first inspection, the hairs look pretty wavy when you first get them. Even though it looks good make sure you inspect the hair just incase some of the ends may have to be clipped. You can also wash and color this hair just as you would your own, though it is not really needed if your natural hair is dark brown/black to begin with.

A question many women have is how do I know this is real Brazilian Hair?

We have addressed that issue in our earlier post on the issue of “fake” and cheap weaves. Many companies simply process their hair in Brazil, though it actually comes from China. Very technical way of calling it legit, huh? That’s the kind of stuff you have to look for in this industry.

How to Tell Your Brazilian Weave is Real

1. The hair is soft to the touch.
2. The hair is expensive. Real hair from Brazil is not cheap. Remember, the market demand is huge and the supply is small.
3. Its not sold in large quantities. Like we just said, since the demand is so large and the supply is so little how in the world do some suppliers ALWAYS have it in stock? Something to think about.

Those are just a few tips, but as always take your time to investigate and company or service that offers to sell you cheap weaves. If it is too good to be true it probably is. Everyone isn’t always bad though. Some vendors are middle men who don’t actually know the quality of the product. But some are just trying to take you for a fast one so you have to be on your game out there!
